Round The World Travel – Accommodations
Accommodations can be one of the larger costs to consider on a round the world trip. These costs can be up to 30% of your total travel budget. Fortunately, finding accommodations around the world has never been easier. With a click of a link, one can book a hotel just about anywhere. But to be honest, we don’t want a hotel room, we want to connect more with locals and see their cities and towns through their eyes. Also, since we’re going to be on the road for so long, we want a “home” when possible, with a kitchen to cook in and yard for all of us to run around in etc… For this reason, we have researched a variety of accommodation types that we are thinking to use throughout our travels.
Here are some of our resources so far:
- Couchsurfing – Family group
- Trusted Housesitters
- SERVAS – A peace organization that promotes openness through travel
- Educator’s Travel Network
- Teacher Travel Web
- Hostel World
- Vacation Rentals by Owners (VRBO)
- Air BNB
Not every hotel, hostel, or guest house will be included in search engines like AirBnB or VRBO, however you can find local “gems” by searching on Trip Advisor. The guesthouse in question may not post on any of the typical search sites, but visitors are often inclined to share their experiences on Trip Advisor.
