While travelling throughout Europe for the past 4 months, we learned a lot about European history, art and so much more. We had a fabulous time in Barcelona, Spain and were wondering where we should go next. People gave us loads of suggestions – which included Morocco, Africa. Despite my father’s objections not to go because of the Ebola virus, we thought it would be interesting to take a short hopper flight and explore. Our weeklong trip includes Fes, Erg Chebbi in the Sahara, Todra Gorge and then a return to Fes.
Lucky for us that we have access to Ryan Air – it’s our new favourite way to travel with incredibly cheap flights. Our baggage charges almost cost more than our tickets! We’ve figured out a way to get the best possible deal. Zoe and Mik claim our baggage, and we claim their’s as children rates are 50% less than adults. It works out incredibly well!
We landed at the Fes airport and were picked up by our driver who we hired to take us to the medina. We decided we wanted to stay in the medina (market place) so we could have the most authentic experience in the shortest amount of time. We were not disappointed!
Once we made it to the medina, our bags were loaded into a rolling cart and we quickly started moving through the labyrinth of alleyways and passages to make it to our new abode – the Riad Kettani.
We were warmly greeted by the owner Dominque and served some delicious Moroccan cookies and mint tea. We were amazed by the beautiful riad – it wasn’t like anything we had seen before! The house was very tall and with beautiful mosaics everywhere! Our view from the rooftop terrace was incredible and we were able to see the entire old city. The doors in the sitting room/dining room were enormous and very beautiful. There were numerous places to sit and relax. It was also where we ate many of our meals while in Fes.
Our room was really interesting – as we could look out over the courtyard of the riad, or go up the stairs to the roof top terrace. The Moroccan designs were very unique. The service was amazing and we felt very well cared for.
We are looking forward to some great times in Morocco. We only have a week, but we are sure to pack in lots of fun and adventures in that time!

Hi, Katina, this is so totally amazing, it looks like you are being transported to one of Scheherazade’s Stories, so colourful, luxurious, really just beautiful. Your room is lovely, you must have felt like royalty. Thank you for sharing, love the photos, and it’s great to see you all enjoying yourself. I am wondering what Mikhaila and Zoe are going to “cook up” on this trip, or are you going and let yourself just being pampered? Love and Hugs from us
Hi Oma,
It really was something different to see. We love Europe, but the Moroccan designs and architecture was so new and unique to us. We really enjoy the cultural differences.

Hi Kim,
You would really like it in Fes. The styles were so unique and very luxurious. Every house we went to was so high and light – it felt like it went on forever. Then on the top of each house is a roof top terrace where you can see the whole medina…really incredible.
Take care,
Kat:)

Too funny….that is the same hotel and looks like the same room we had when we were in Fez a few years back. What are the odds of that?
That’s unbelievable! Totally cool though. We have good taste in Moroccan Riads!
