Light flashed brightly, making little black dots float in front of my eyes. I sat up and looked around in confusion. What had just happened? Then I remembered. I had been in the lab to watch the Supreme Scientist test out his new teleportation device. He had pushed the trigger and then there was a flash of light. I could hear from the voices speaking quietly around me that others from our planet were here too. Wherever here might be. Under my hands was something long, green, and soft, very unlike the ground back home, which was light purple, hard and rocky.
“Are you alright?” asked a man on my left.
I nodded. “I’m fine. Where are we? I don’t recognize anything here.”
He pursed his lips. “I don’t know. Maybe the Chief will.”
Chief Fordley was the smartest, strongest, and kindest man I knew. If anyone knew what was going on, it would be him. I got to my feet and saw that many other people from home were here too. On their clothing, I recognized the symbols for their strength-fields: Draggers, the powerfully built ones who usually dragged big, heavy items wherever they were needed, Wood-workers, who made all of our wood houses and buildings, Stone-lifters, who usually work with Draggers to put up statues and other stone objects, and Stone-cutters, the ones who were able to carve beautiful designs into rock.
I could heard the Chief’s voice ringing out over the slowly rising voices:
“Calm down everyone, don’t panic or worry. We will be able to get back home if we think calmly.” At his voice, the crowd fell silent. “I realize that none of our devices work here, so we will have to be clever, and think of a solution to this problem.”
“We can help”, came a strange voice from behind us.
We all whirled around to see a group of people standing in a cluster behind a man with a cloak made of something that looked furry. He had strange markings on his face that looked painted there with a paint or juice.
“How can you help us? We don’t even know who you are!” came a female voice from our group.
Several people muttered their agreement. I didn’t agree. I thought we could use all the help we could get. So I said just that.
The Chief smiled. “Yes, our Pathfinder is right. We can use all the help we can get. The sooner we get back, the better. Especially with the Princess here.”
My mouth dropped open in shock and terror. The Princess was slowly dying from an illness, so teleportation couldn’t be good for her condition. We needed help, and fast.
“We know where to go to find the right materials to build what you need to get back,” the man with the painted face said. “It will be hard, but it will work”.
“We are willing to work as hard as needed”, said the Chief. This statement was followed by shouts of agreement from almost everyone from home. The painted face man nodded. “Then we require a word with your leader.”
The Chief followed the other man to the middle of the clearing we were in. I watched as they gestured with their hands, going back and forth. I hoped the “plan to help us” worked. It looked like the two men had finished talking, as they both stood up and walked back towards us. We all waited, anxious to hear what the plan was.
“Chief Norin here has found out a way to get back home. We will build a portal out of stone with powerful rocks. They will have enough power to bring us back home. He knows where to get these stones, we just need to bring them back here.”
This was met with silence. Would the stones actually work? There was only one way to find out for sure. I had a feeling that was everyone else’s thoughts as well, because they started muttering their approval.
The Chief spoke. “Lead the way, Chief Norin. We’re right behind you.”
Chief Norin had the Wood-workers make giant sledges to transport the stones, because they needed to be big. The Draggers would bring them back to this clearing, or plain, as Chief Norin called it, and the Stone-cutters would shape them, and finally the Stone-lifters would lift them into place. Anyone who wasn’t helping in this way would make a camp and prepare food and shelter for those who are working.
I was going to walk with the Draggers, because I am a Path finder, which is a rare gift. This means that I can find the easiest and fastest path to travel anywhere I want to get to. If I ever have a doubt, my amulet I wear will flash green when I’m facing the right direction. There are only five of us in this strength-field, so I’m lucky that I’m one of them. The Chief knows about my strength-field, so he made me the leader of the “expedition”.
We set out the next day with the sledges. The path was really easy to find and it took no time to get to the place where we got the stones called “sarsons”. Since the walkers knew the way after that, I didn’t need to go on every single walk, but I did anyway, because I like walking. Soon we had all the sarsons that we needed. The Stone-cutters started shaping them to the exact way that Chief Norin said.
Then, it was time to get the other stones, called “bluestones”. They were the ones that had the most power in them. They were much farther away, so we had to take a ship for part of the way. It was a very exciting adventure! Eventually, after about a month of this, we got all the stones that we needed. The portal was ready to be constructed.
I wasn’t at the site for most of the construction because I was helping to gather food and water, but it was magnificant. The sarsons were put upright with other sarsons on top, called lintels, with the bluestones in the middle. The portal would work when the sun shone through the entrance on the summer solstice, which was coming up soon.

Hi Mikhaila,
I love your story and play! This is one of the most interesting and mysterious ruins! What is your own opinion? Love, Baba
Hi Baba!
I think Stonehenge was used as a portal to somewhere or a temple. I’m not exactly sure, but I really love the mystery around the ruins. I wish I could find out the purpose for Stonehenge!
Hi, Mikhaila, love the story. I am sure Stonehenge is just the place for mystical dreaming. The photo is really dramatic with the cloud formation. I have some photos that your Dad took of Stonehenge and also photos of how he built his own Stonehenge with help from his friends many years ago 🙂
P.S. what about those little cute “critters” in front of Stonehenge? I can just hear them giggling.
Hi Oma!
I didn’t know that my dad built a model of Stonehenge, he never told us that! The little “critters” were made for us from Teta Erin. You can find more information on them in our about us section.
