The Best Aussie Dessert

,

Knock, knock
Who’s there?
Pavlova for,
Pavlova for who?
Pavlova for me!

Yum yum! We were so happy to add pavlova to our global fieldtrip recipe book from Australia! (Especially me) We made it twice; once with Teta Mary and Alycia Siomos at their house, and a second one at Teta Maria Damchev’s house. Here’s how you can make this super easy and delicious dessert:

Ingredients:

  • 5 egg whites
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 350 ml whip cream or thickened milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1 tsp corn flour
The ingredients
The ingredients
  • Fruit such as strawberries and kiwis for decoration
  • Passion fruit pulp

Process:

1. Pre-heat the oven to 300 degrees F.

2. Separate the egg whites from the yolk.

3. Blend the egg whites in a big bowl.

4. Gradually add sugar.

5. Add the corn flour, vanilla and white vinegar.

6. Cover a circular pan with tin foil and shape the egg white mixture to make it look like a hill.

7. Put it in the oven for about 2 hours.
8. After two hours of cooking, it should look like a hill; turn it upside down onto a dish.

9. Spread the whip cream on the top and edges. If you have thickened milk, beat it and spread it on.
10. Decorate with fruit and passion fruit pulp.

11. Serve and enjoy!

We also decorated one at Teta Maria Damchev’s house.  She had already bought a pre-made meringue base so all we had to do was decorate it.  We used whipped cream, kiwis, strawberries and pineapples to decorate the dessert.

We were so lucky to get to make and decorate two pavlovas with our family!  Pavlovas are really tasty and one of my new favourite desserts!  It will always remind me of my time in Australia.

  3. Hi, Zoe, this looks so delicious and is just the perfect dessert for Summer. I can understand that you all enjoyed it – several times. With the step by step instructions and photos I am sure to make it in the not to distant future, because it’s Strawberry time soon. And another thing: the name reminds me of Anna Pavlova, the greatest Russian Ballerina, and I was a great admirer of hers, when I was a child. Thanks for the recipe. GazillionXOXOXO’s

It is wonderful that you have had so many opportunities to prepare such yummy recipes, throughout your travels. Seeing Teta Maria in the photos reminded me of the time she visited us. I recall the numerous dishes she prepared for all of us, and they were absolutely delicious! Just wondering, Zoe, how are you managing to stay slim, eating all these sweets?
