There are not many “Canadian” foods, but we managed to make some Canadian desserts while here in Victoria and they sure are delicious!
My favourite Canadian dessert would have to be Butter Tarts!
Here is how you can make this AWESOME dessert:
Ingredients:
- 12 pastry cups or your own home made pastry
- 1/4 cup of butter
- 1/4 cup of brown sugar
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1/2 cup of corn syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla
- 1 lightly beaten egg
Process:
1. Place pastry cups in a muffin tin or on a cookie sheet and set aside.
2. Pre heat the oven to 400 degrees.
3. In a large bowl, mix the butter, brown sugar, salt and corn syrup until it is like a paste.
4. Add the egg and the vanilla and mix well.
5. Divide the mixture into each pastry cup and put it into the oven.
6. Bake it for about 15-20 minutes or until the middle is brown and bubbling
7. Eat!
Some people like to add raisins or nuts but you can add whatever you want.
We enjoyed this treat as soon as it came out of the oven and it was so yummy! I think it would also taste as good with ice cream!
