We left Munich, Germany and made our way towards sunny Italy. We were able to meet up again with our friend Lydia to tour the lovely city of Vicenza. It was great to have her with us because she knew a lot about art history and architecture.
To make our touring a little more interesting, we decided to create our own virtual scavenger hunt with the app called Huntzz. We used it before in the Louvre while in Paris, so we thought that we could have some fun and make our own.
Download the app for free if you have an iPad or android device and play along.
If you don’t, here are some photos and information from our hunt.
Our first stop was The Church of San Lorenzo which is a very big church built in the Gothic style.
My second stop is also at San Lorenzo. The fresco is located in a little alcove off to the side the church.
Our third stop is at the Palladio Museum. Our friend Lydia knew a lot about the columns on the beautiful building and taught us a way how to remember the names for them.
Our fourth stop is at the Basilica, a beautiful building built by the famous architect, Palladio. His statue is right beside the Basilica.
The Torre Bissara is a tall clock tower with a blue clock attached to the Basilica which is filled with restaurants and lots of shops.
Our next stop on the treasure hunt is a little side street called Corso Andrea. It is a lovely stop to see beautiful frescos and art.
The Church of Santa Corona is a very nice church which is said to hold a piece of the Crown of Thorns.
Our next stop is at the same church of Santa Corona. We were surprised to find the tomb of Luigi Da Porto there.
Our final stop is at this theatre which is one of the oldest theatres I have ever seen. Palladio designed it to look like the outdoor amphitheatre in Athens, Greece.
Our last stop is at the same theatre. It is a beautiful piece of artwork. I would love to see a show here- it is so amazing.
We had a great time making our hunt and learning about Vicenza – it’s now in the app store! We would like to give thanks to Lydia for accompanying us and teaching us more about art history!

Wow! Those Italians just made everything with that extra touch of beauty! Your pictures are super. Do you take them with your I Pad? I am SO impressed with how ‘techno-savvy'( is that even a word) both you and you sister are. Who taught you all this? School? Parents? Both? Or did they start you and you figured out the rest?

Hi!
“Techno-savvy is a word now! 🙂 I take most of my pictures on my ipad but we all take pictures and share them with one another. 🙂 My parents teach me most things but I figure out a lot of things by myself as well. 🙂
Hi, Zoe, I just love this posting, the photos are amazing. It seems like all of Italy is a Museum or Art Gallery:-) I especially enjoy the historic “titbits”. It’s amazing that the frescos have survived all these centuries. Thank you for this.
Hi!
There is so much art in Italy. I am also starting to think Italy is like a giant art gallery because of all of the frescos and statues not only in the museums, but also on the streets! You are right, it is amazing how the frescos are still in pretty good conditions after many years.
Hey – the app looks cool, even cooler is that you guys are contributing to it……(it says on the app you can contribute with free searches or on a revenue sharing basis….might be able to make some pocket change out of it if you visit big tourist destinations?)
Hi!
We are starting with free treasure hunts until we get better at making them. We will make more as we go along on our journey around the world. Maybe we can make some treat money for our trip by making more Huntzz! 🙂
Hi Zoe,
I enjoyed your blog immensely !!!! All the architecture is so beautiful! Beautiful Churches, frescos, and the theatre is outstanding! I would love to see a performance there. Your photos are amazing, and I enjoyed the little history notes. Keep up the good work!
